Five years ago in October 2004 a group of 6 volunteers decided to take 15 bowlers away for a week to Hervey Bay. While there they went Whale Watching and also Jet Ski rides. The group also went to Fraser Island. This was a great success and on the return the Coordinator asked the Board of management about taking another group away the following year.
This was looked into and in 2005 a group of adults with disabilities were invited to go on another trip but this time they went to Tangalooma Wild Dolphin Resort on Moreton Island. We had 28 clients and 10 support staff attend. Our holiday travellers had a great time; they tried a number of various activities parasailing, sand tobogganing, quad bike rides, and we couldn’t forget the feeding of the dolphins.
The holiday is now an annual thing for a number of our bowlers and also a number of adults from our neighbouring disability service from Lismore. The group that go have formed a great friendship and look forward to the week they spend together in October each year.
