Biala Support Services Incorporated provides services for both children and adults with intellectual and physical disabilities. It is a non-profit/charitable organisation which is run by a voluntary Board of Management who employ a part time Chief Executive Officer (30 hours per week) to oversee the organisation. Biala Support Services Incorporated has under its auspice the following branches:
Biala Special School
Biala Special School is an independent school providing services for students with a wide variety of impairment. The school is situated in Ballina and provides a range of specialist services for students from 4 to 18 years encompassing the Brunswick Heads/Mullumbimby, Lismore, Woodburn and Ballina areas.
Biala School caters for children with mild/moderate and through to severe degrees of impairment. Among the disabilities catered for are: Physical/Intellectual, Autism, Vision impaired, Hearing Impaired, Cerebral Palsy, Learning Delay, Development Delay, Behaviour Disorder and Downs Syndrome.
Specialist teaching staff, therapists and support personnel combine to offer a wide range of specialist programs which are specifically prepared to suit the needs of the individual child. It is the aim of these programs to maximise the potential of the individual recognising that all students have a varied capacity for learning but a similar capacity to develop within a pleasant, supportive and friendly environment.
Biala Special School has been a major service provider for students with special needs in the Far North Coast since it was established in 1969.

North Coast Fun Club
North Coast Fun Club (NCFC) is a social group that has monthly outings and planned activities for people with intellectual disabilities 18 years and over.
The group is overseen by a Coordinator and dedicated casual staff who provide an exciting program of outings including dances, theme parks, beach bbq’s, nature walks, river cruises and pool parties. All outings are fully supervised, are reasonably priced, safe, friendly and provide a non-judgemental environment.
Striker Disabled Bowling League
Strikers Disabled Bowling League is a social group for the over 18’s. This service is run by volunteers each Thursday night at the Ballina Ten Pin Bowling Centre.
All bowlers are collected and dropped off at their homes by Community Buses. Members come from Lismore, Byron Bay, Mullumbimby, Ocean Shores, Brunswick Heads and Ballina areas. This group provides social interaction along with respite for carers and families.
Melaleuca Respite House
Melaleuca Respite House is located in East Ballina. It comprises of a three bedroom dwelling one of which has its own ensuite. The house also provides sleeping areas for carers. It is a wonderful facility with easy access to both shopping and beaches.
The house is well utilized by associated services and bookings are taken six months in advance. Biala Support Services Incorporated look after all aspects of the house which includes all maintenance, stock and most supplies.
The clients that utilize this service pay a nominal fee per person for both overnight and day use.
Our respite facility is renowned as being one of the best on the north coast.
Brokerage of Respite Support Staff
Biala Support Services Incorporated provide brokerage of support staff to affiliated services for both short term and long term respites. The staff are available to provide respite in any required or requested setting (in home, motels etc along with bookings in our own respite facility).
Our support staff provide a high level of professionalism along with the desire to provide a pleasant, supportive and friendly experience for all service users, their families and carers.
